APPLICATIONS/NOMINATIONS MEMBERSHIP OF ACTIONAID GHANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
ActionAid Ghana (AAG) is an affiliate of ActionAid, a global movement of people working together to further human rights for all and defeat poverty. We believe everyone has the power within them to create change for themselves, their families, and communities. ActionAid is a catalyst for that change and currently works in over 45 countries, reaching over 15 million people worldwide.
In Ghana, ActionAid works in the Upper East, Upper West, North East, Savannah, Northern, Bono East, Bono, Ahafo, Oti, Volta and Greater Accra regions of Ghana. This represents eleven out of Ghana’s sixteen regions. Within these regions, we work directly with communities, people’s organisations, women’s movements, groups and networks, social movements, and other allies to overcome the structural causes and consequences of poverty and injustice. We connect the work we do at community level with broader efforts and struggles for justice at every level to make the greatest contribution towards a just, equitable and sustainable world.
In terms of governance, ActionAid Ghana runs a two-tier system, General Assembly (GA) and Board of Directors (Board). The GA is the highest decision-making body to which the Board is accountable, and the latter has oversight responsibility over management.
In this regard, AAG is seeking to recruit committed, passionate, and skilled individuals from the regions we work in, especially Upper West, East, Bono, and Oti regions to join its General Assembly (GA), the highest decision-making body of the organisation.
General Assembly Membership
The GA has the responsibility of providing the strategic direction to enable AAG achieve its objectives. The GA meets once a year. However, there are opportunities for GA Members to join the Board of Directors or one of the five Committees of the Board. We are particularly interested in individuals with skills in fundraising, economics, movement building, climate justice, law, communication, employment rights and gender issues among others.
Criteria for selection includes the following:
- Knowledge and skills required to properly serve the organisation at any given point in time in terms of developmental stage of the organisation.
- Principles and values consistent with the aims of ActionAid Ghana (mutual respect, equity and justice, Solidarity with People Living in Poverty and Exclusion, integrity, Courage of Conviction, Independence, and Humility)
- Willingness to devote time to activities and / or matters of the organisation.
- Readiness to serve the organisation faithfully, diligently, devoid of all partiality and partisan interest.
- Demonstrated ability to work cohesively in a team.
Please kindly note that all governance positions (including GA membership) in ActionAid Ghana are non-remunerative. However, AAG will cover all costs related to participation in meetings etc. All who show interest and are successful would go through a security screening process for clearance and subsequently signed up to ActionAid Ghana’ SHEA and Safeguarding policies as a code of conduct.
