A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD?

Representative and inclusive democracies and equal societies are important for a just world, but civic space is shrinking and regressive taxation is keeping people in poverty.

From young women to smallholder women farmers and the girl child, people who are living in poverty face injustice. Their voices are ignored and their rights aren’t respected.

Women and young people are too often excluded from decision-making. This means that governments and corporations aren’t properly held accountable for their actions.

Power and resources should be shared fairly. More investment in public services would help meet the needs of women and other excluded groups. This should be funded through progressive taxation.

To eradicate poverty and injustice we must protect and expand political space. Governments should strengthen civil society and democratic systems so that under-represented voices can be heard. By becoming part of the debate, people can offer solutions.
