ActionAid Ghana supports pupils of Hobor Basic School with ICT equipment to foster quality and gender responsive public education delivery

The support forms part of ActionAid's efforts to promote inclusive education and empower marginalized communities, particularly focusing on schools in rural areas. The Greater Accra, Volta and Oti Programme-GAVORP of ActionAid Ghana presented five high-quality, user-friendly information communication information and technology equipment to the Hobor Basic School to provide equitable learning opportunities for all students, remove barriers to learning, make content accessible to everyone and build more resilient education systems in the Ga South district.
Despite ICT being a core subject in Ghana’s basic education curriculum, the school lacked the tools to teach it effectively. As a result, students had to rely on theoretical lessons, with no opportunities to develop hands-on computer skills. This gap not only limits their understanding of the subject but also puts them at a disadvantage compared to their peers in urban areas who have access to computers and other digital resources.
ActionAid’s strategic priority three emphasises its commitment to promoting access to quality and gender-responsive public basic education. Having worked in the area, the GAVORP team identified a need for the equipment to give pupils better digital learning and education experience.
Presenting the equipment to the school on Feb 21, Pupils of the Hobor basic school in a colorful cultural display received the new computers with excitement and hope. For many, it's their first encounter with technology, opening up endless possibilities to navigate the digital world and build confidence to pursue their dreams.
The headteacher, Mrs. Barbara Hammond, expressed her gratitude to ActionAid Ghana for the donation. She recounted that “For years, we have been teaching ICT without computers, and it has been a challenge for both teachers and students. These computers will not only improve the quality of education we offer but also inspire our students to dream bigger and aim higher.”
ActionAid Ghana has championed inclusive learning over the past three decades. In its new country strategy paper VII, AAG is championing access to quality, gender-responsive basic education and other childhood development opportunities.
The AAG GAVORP manager, Madam She Vera Anzagira, emphasised the AAG's commitment to promoting equitable access to quality education. She stressed that “We believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves the opportunity to thrive in a digital world,” she said. By providing these computers, we are not only supporting the students of Hobor Basic School but also contributing to the development of a more inclusive and gender-responsive education system in Ghana.”
AAG remains relentless in our effort to promote quality education through the provision of model education infrastructure of Kindergarten schools, and logistics supply to foster quality and gender-responsive public education delivery.
We are hopeful that this donation will contribute to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
