World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025- “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld”

~Message by AAG Country Director

On this World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we raise our voices to demand a world where no girl or woman is held back because of her period. Menstruation is not a choice, and it must never be a cause for shame, exclusion, or vulnerability.

At ActionAid Ghana, we know that the inability to manage menstruation with dignity is a silent but persistent form of gender-based violence. It keeps girls out of school, women out of work, and communities trapped in cycles of stigma and misinformation.

We also know that climate change is deepening these inequalities. As floods, droughts, and displacement disrupt access to water, sanitation, and menstrual products, girls and women, especially those in rural and climate-affected communities, are left more vulnerable than ever.

That is why our work connects menstrual health to climate justice and the fight to end violence against women and girls. We promote sustainable solutions, such as reusable sanitary pads, and push for the removal of taxes on all menstrual products. We also advocate for prioritising menstrual health in climate response and emergency planning.

This year's theme, "Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld," reminds us that change is possible only when we act together. We must break the silence, dismantle harmful norms, and invest in long-term, inclusive solutions that put girls and women at the centre.

Menstrual health is a right, not a privilege. Let’s build a Ghana where every period is safe, supported, and stigma-free.
