Habitat for Humanity Africa Vice President Visits Anloga to Assess Coastal Resilience Efforts under the Adaptation Fund Project
The Improved Resilience of Coastal Communities in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire (IRCC) Project, funded by the Adaptation Fund and implemented by a consortium led by the UN-HABITAT with Habitat for Humanity Africa, and University of Twente, is making steady progress in strengthening the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities to the growing impacts of climate change.
Through community-led adaptation interventions, the project seeks to enhance ecosystem restoration, promote sustainable livelihoods and strengthen the capacity of coastal communities to anticipate, withstand and adapt to climate-related risks.
Within this consortium, Habitat for Humanity is implementing the Component 2 of the project with its sub-grantee, ActionAid Ghana. A key achievement so far has been the growing ownership and active participation of stakeholders across the project's target communities in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, reinforcing the importance of locally led adaptation and collective responsibility in building climate-resilient communities.
On October 26, ActionAid Ghana hosted Vice President of Habitat for Humanity Africa, Abi Riak and her team in Anloga for project monitoring. The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on progress, exchange perspectives and reaffirm the importance of partnerships in advancing climate adaptation and resilience.
John Nkaw, Country Director, affirmed AAG's commitment to women-led climate solution. He stressed that We are particularly committed to ensuring that women are not merely beneficiaries of climate adaptation interventions but active participants and decision-makers in shaping solutions that respond to their realities. By placing communities, especially women, at the centre of implementation, we are strengthening local leadership, protecting livelihoods and building lasting resilience against the impacts of climate change
