ActionAid Ghana Partners GBC as Headline Sponsor of Women Voices to Advance Women’s Rights and Gender Equality

In a significant move to strengthen national conversations on gender equality and women's empowerment, ActionAid Ghana has been unveiled as the official headline sponsor of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s (GBC) flagship programme, Women Voices.

The partnership brings together Ghana’s leading social justice organisation and the nation’s public broadcaster to create a powerful platform that elevates the voices of women and girls, drives public discourse on gender issues, and champions solutions that advance women's rights and social inclusion.

At a time when women and girls continue to face barriers to economic opportunities, leadership, education, safety, and equal participation in society, the partnership seeks to ensure that their experiences and perspectives are not only heard but also influence policy and development outcomes.

For ActionAid Ghana, the collaboration is a strategic investment in amplifying issues that matter most to women and girls, particularly those from marginalized communities whose voices are often excluded from mainstream discussions.

Speaking on the partnership, John Nkaw, Country Director of ActionAid Ghana, described the sponsorship as a natural extension of the organisation’s mission to promote social justice and gender equality.

“ActionAid Ghana believes that women and girls must be at the centre of decisions that affect their lives. Through this partnership with GBC’s Women Voices, we are creating a stronger platform for women to share their experiences, shape national conversations, and advocate for the changes they want to see. When women’s voices are amplified, societies become more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous.”

The partnership aligns with ActionAid Ghana’s vision of a just, equitable, and sustainable world where every person enjoys the right to live with dignity, free from poverty and oppression. It also supports the organisation’s ongoing work to promote women’s leadership, economic justice, climate justice, the eradication of violence against women and girls, and the protection of human rights.

As headline sponsor, ActionAid Ghana will support the programme in bringing critical issues affecting women and girls to the forefront of public debate, while providing a platform for activists, policymakers, development practitioners, traditional leaders, and community members to engage in meaningful dialogue.

The programme is expected to spotlight key issues including:

  • Women’s economic empowerment and decent work;
  • Gender-based violence and protection mechanisms;
  • Women’s political participation and leadership;
  • Sexual and reproductive health and rights;
  • Climate justice and its impact on women and girls;
  • Education and opportunities for young women and girls; and
  • The recognition and redistribution of unpaid care and domestic work.

The partnership further reinforces ActionAid Ghana’s belief that the media has a critical role to play in shaping public attitudes, challenging harmful social norms, and holding duty-bearers accountable for commitments to gender equality. The Women's Voices show airs weekly on Mondays and Wednesday; and it reaches citizens in all 16 regions of Ghana. In the next two months, ActionAid and GBC would through this platform treat key issues and topics affecting women, girls, and persons living with disabilities.

As Ghana continues to pursue inclusive development, ActionAid Ghana and GBC are confident that Women Voices will serve as an important platform for informing, inspiring, and mobilizing action towards a society where women and girls can thrive and fully exercise their rights.
