We Lost our Livelihood to the Floods
Apateba Awienya is a 40-year old shea butter producer who lives in the Kasiesa Community located in the Builsa South District of the Upper East Region with her husband, Awienya, and their children, 8-year old, Azuliwen and 17-year old Attah.
The family had their building collapse during the heavy torrential rains that hit the region in October 2019. "We lost our livelihood to the floods", said Apateba, as she recounted the moments leading up to the collapse of several rooms in her compound including the storehouse in which she kept her processed shea butter for sale.
Apateba and Awienya lost their livelihood as the shea butter they had processed to be sold, was destroyed when their storehouse collapsed as a result of the floods.
